Each time I read about an alternative support I try to think of how it
solves the problem of equalization. The three points define a plane and
anything that adds another point potentially induces strain. If the
supporting material is compliant the the strain is reduced somewhat but then
the flatness of the underlying supporting material comes into play.

One problem I have with elastomer buttons to act as pivot points is that
they have a restoring force which may be acting along one direction more
than another if the triangle or bar they were supporting wasn't parallel
with the back of the mirror.

I don't see how any of the proposed schemes approximates three point
suspension. Just adding blobs doesn't solve the problem.
