The easy thing to the large grit problem is to capture the grit at the 320
grit stage (you don't have to worry about scratches above that level too
much) by painting with a thinned lacquer paint. The intent is to glue the
grit into the holes rather than trust to the cementing of the grit and glass
into the holes as I do. Wipe the surface after the painting with lacquer
thinner to both drive the lacquer into holes and to thin the stuff that is
on the surface of the tiles, etc. Once you have the lacquer in there, the
surface will be smooth and not let the grit stay in the hole that is left.
