The Hex tiles are probably a little bit better theoretically as there are no
long lines of gaps in the hex configuration.  I'd suspect that the octagonal
tiles will have the same advantage.
Cushioned faces really don't mean all that much as the first grit usually
gets most, if not all, of the cushion off of the face of the tiles unless
you do a really good job of making the glass spherical before you start the
tool.  the cushion shape looks nice but really doesn't matter with grinding.
