The glass tiles will be better than the glazed tiles you have.  The color
doesn't matter at all but you do want the hard floor tiles rather than the
wall tiles.  The glass is probably a bit harder than the tiles normally used
and is a good material if you don't want to spend the money for floor tiles.
The material for glass can be from the local glass shop from their scrap bin
of glass pieces as you are going to be cutting them into 1" or so size
anyway.
At $4 a sq. foot, that is a little more than the $6.50 or so for two sq.
foot mats that I get from the Home Depot.
