Welding aluminum can be pretty tricky. OTOH, getting aluminum welded isn't
very expensive at all. All the welding on my scope cost about $125.

You can braze (or more properly, solder) aluminum with the right type of
rods, but I don't really know how strong the join would be. Normally,
aluminum is welded with the TIG process in which an inert gas shields
the metal and the arc. TIG welders are fairly expensive, I think.
