A note to add to Kevin McEnhill's posting.
I've machined acrylic, and it works pretty
much as Kevin described Lexan. You CAN cut
threads in acrylic, and they hold under light
loads. For instance, you can screw together
a couple of light pieces of acrylic. For
heavier loads follow Kevin's advice to use
threaded inserts.
Try not to breathe any vapors when the stuff
gets hot!
