We hope to have the observatory completed sometime this winter, and open it
to the general membership and public by spring. The building itself is
nearly complete, with only the roll-off roofs still to be added. The mount
is now finished, and the OTA is nearing completion in my shop. The optics,
made by Vaughn Parsons, are done and awaiting their new home. The
observatory will feature an Ealing 16" Cassegrain on one side, the 37" on
the other, and a control/warm room in-between. Each scope has it's own
roll-off roof. A concrete apron/patio is next to the building, for setting
up portable telescopes.
Since this is a permanent installation, traditional mounting methods and
materials were used. Virtually all materials and time have been donated by
club members and corporate sponsors; many thanks are due S.L.A.S president
and chief fund-raiser Siegfried Jachmann and project manager Bruce Grim,
along with a host of volunteers.
Comments appreciated.
