Since different individuals very in their senstitivity to pooisons, one 
expresses toxicity (if deathis the endpoint measured) by determining the 
concentration that kills 50 percent of the subjects. Thus, the LD50 is the 
"lethal dose 50 per cent". The dose is not the total amount ingested, but the 
total amount divided by body weight (mass).
