My dream O/S for a port would be QNX, a realtime, embedded UNIX lookalike
that runs inside a lot of embedded applications. I used to run it as an O/S
for a POS application (which was sort of a mis-application of the O/S, in a
way), when I left the organization in question there was no-one tasked with
its support, and it ran about three years thereafter without a reboot, and
without a fault. I've been a real UNIX guy for about 8 years now, but QNX is
still my first love, from an OS point of view. Extremely nifty
micro-footprint gui, too. And it is micro-kernel (8 kb! kernel), so you just
run the O/S pieces you need. Also, > 3000 task switches a second on 386 20
mhz processor!!!, so not too much worry about overhead (unlike Linux). They
used to have a very nifty development kit for targetting hand-held devices,
maybe still do.

And no, I don't work for them, and never have.
