Re: ATM black paint - painting outside of the tube
Hi, JT -- nobody seems to have responded to the part of your question about
painting the *outside* of your sonotube. I peeled the waxy stuff off the
outside of the cellulose fiber light shroud for my scope, and then gave it a
once-over with 100-grade sandpaper before applying a couple of spray coats
of gray primer. After that I laid down a couple of spray coats of Krylon
midnight blue. I thought about adding a coat of polyurethane for extra
durability, but the rest of my scope was already almost done and I didn't
want to wait another weekend. It has held up pretty well for the last 18
months, with the telescope frequently sitting outside all set up as long as
it's not raining.

I'm using a standard Sonotube and I've peeled the plastic layer off of =
the inside. The outside still has the waxy coating. I'm particularly =
interested in what black paint works best for killing the light on the =
inside, but I'm also interested in what paints will work over the waxy =
outside as well w/o me having to scrub it all off.
