At $2.50/lb. around here for scrap brass, boring out a solid bar would be
quite expensive!  Then comes the problem of boring something so deep.
Better to roll your own from some sheet stock and braze/weld it together and
clean up the seams.
Stuff like a tube that size is really not used much and as a result, having
some in stock is going to be a fairly expensive proposition due to the taxes
on stock that stores have to pay.  That's probably the largest reason why
odd items don't stay on shelves any more - it costs money to let something
sit on a shelf.
