Re: ATM Plywood laminate

Hi,

Yes Hugues, one of the first, if not the first who has tried thin plywood
and foam is Steven Overholt. When I was looking for is booklet "lightweight
Giant", I wrote to John Lightholer who send me is own booklet to me, Thanks
John !!
John has used this technic to make is beautiful 22" fd 6 dobson scope.
I have try this on a 22" too. Yes, it's more work cause each time their is
something to cut, their is 3 panel to cut, one plywood, one foam and again
one plywood, also their is more glue to spread but really, that really
worth
the effor ! The classical white wood glue or the yellow esterior grade is
good. I'm now currently making a 32" with a composite mirror box, "fork"
and
top cage. The mirror box is amazingly light, around 36 lbs, not lot more
than the 22's mirror box
..
I have used 9 mm plywood (baltic birch) and 2" thick foam for this new
scope
and for the cage, a 3 mm thick ordinary plywood with 2,3" of foam for the
top "ring". The top cage, in fact a single square shape, is light, around 5
lbs, despite is 40" size. I have started to translate all those pages but
it's not yet finished.
