Don't understand the drawing.  You need to illuminate the mirror side of the
wire so that the reflection goes to the mirror.  Other than this means a lot
of light to the wire (you are going to reflect that light over a almost 180
deg. beam), the light will be a small fraction of the wire diameter to the
mirror.  The concept here is to make an imaginary slit by the reflection of
the light on the wire.  This I have done on a solar spectrometer by using a
1/2" diameter polished rod and looked at the reflection of the sun in it.
The light was quite adequate and the image was a very nice spectrum when the
rod was more than 6' away from the grating.
