OK, I should have said that I was thinking about ligthing the wire
at one place with a small surrounding screen, and use the
the wire to block the light a few mm further. Here is an attempt
to describe with a CAD showing things transversaly, from
the direction the laser beam comes...

So the testing would be very slightly off-axis. On fast mirrors
may that be a problem?
