Doug, I've been thinking about your balance issue with heavy eyepieces and
I'm coming to the conclusion that the brake system is the best solution.

Consider replacing your electrical components with Nils Olaf's brake
pedal/string arrangement to drive the brake pads against the inner sides of
the rocker box. You'd need a bell crank or something like it to manage the
lever actions. Might work!
