The group down in Houston (IIRC) had the best idea for balancing their
club telescope between visual and photographic uses. They balanced the
scope with the heaviest camera/eyepiece combination that they would be
using. They made a brass weight that went around the focuser that
equaled the extra weight of the camera for the times that they were
using it visually.
You could probably buy a piece of the flexible magnetic strip, and
attach it to your telescope. Get some BB's and epoxy enough together to
act as the counterbalance(s) and then just stick them on as you need.
The magnetic strip shouldn't adversely affect the incoming photons!!
