.062" and .125" thick material is quite good enough to take 4-40 or smaller
screws.  2-56 screws are actually capable of taking a lot of stress if you
use the steel ones rather than brass.  Screws down to 0000-160 (very small
ones!) are available at J.I. Morris which is on the web.  Model shops
usually have them in packs of 10 or so per pack.  Depending upon the type of
store, they may stock mostly brass or steel screws.  Better hardware stores
usually stock down to 0-80 screws.  You should also pick up a few taps of
the right size when you buy your screws so that you don't need to use nuts
everywhere.
You can also use aluminum rivits if you don't plan on taking the joints
apart but I would be careful there as you don't get a chance to take the
joints apart.
