1. Yes, that's a very good use of the material
2. Or see Reed (Nutso Nate) Spaulding's post about a ring of astro-turf for
the mirror support. You could make another ring from this piece of aluminum
and apply the astro turf to make your cell, rather than the triangle
business. I've toyed with this idea in the past, but haven't taken any
action yet.
3. Or use the circle as the "ground board" for your Alt-Az scope. I did this
on a much smaller (10") version of my aluminum scope. See pictures and

That's too nice a piece of aluminum to let go to waste, so I'm sure you'll
find a use for it. Maybe the next scope will be smaller???
