Constant torque AC motor speed controllers are available, but they have two
big problems:

1. The range of speed adjustment is very narrow, usually not even 2:1, and
depends a lot on the motor.
2.  Good ones start at about $500.

90 volt DC controllers are available from about $50 up, and give very wide
adjustment range, usually at least 10:1 for most types of 90 volt DC motors.

The paper Grainger catalog has many pages on motors and controllers.  They

but you have to "register" before gaining access.
