ATM and your C-8

Subject: ATM and your C-8

Hey Stan,

I know from some of your posts that you don't like your Celestron. Let
me ask you, however, if you have considered Bartelizing it?

Admittedly, this is a selfish question, as I'm considering modifying my
(circa 1975) C-8 right now. Off of Mel's site is someone who modified a 14
incher, but he used Byers gears. I was thinking of making a Declination
gear either with JB weld or maybe a hose clamp (from the EGROUP listing).
The only drawback on the RA drive is it isn't GOTO capable, but the
tracking is very good. Perhaps another motor could be set up, as well as an
actuator to switch between the two sets of RA motors? I have the encoders
and the Ouranos interface is on order, so these mods, along with modifying
my single axis drive corrector, are all that's needed.

This is just food for thought. I have not been able to find anyone else
who has done this, and I know I usually don't have original thoughts ;-))))
The other address (tomandbeth@theriver.com) is my address at home.
