Re: ATM Secondary for 6"f8 attempt 2
OK :-)
First elliptical was cut in around 3 hours......I work that out to be about
1mm every 4 mins!!
The second elliptical seems to be progressing much more quickly......I am
almost half way through after only an hour.....
I find that it is critical (in terms of rapid cutting) to keep the V-nicks
in the end of the pipe; also to keep a decent quantity of 320 in the slurry.
There also seems to be an ideal slurry consistency.
Too much turps and the slurry is too liquidy - not enough, and the cutter
starts to chatter violently.
A decent consistency is when one can see a liquidy paste between cutter and
plaster wall. If slurry is spilling out over the surface, then too much
turps has been added. If slurry isn't visible, then its drying out too
much.
This probably seems obvious to many, but thought I'd give to those who are
interested, a running-commentary.
btw, turps vapors aren't nice at all
:-P
