        If the purpose of scuffing with a wire
        brush is to remove glaze from the lap,
        forget the brush and try a well-used piece of Scotchbrite.
        This is a nylon pad that is coated or embedded
        with some kind of polishing material.  Used
        under water to deglaze the lap, it does not
        shed and does a great job.
