I am also investigating this route using porcelain clay. My approach is to
form a blank in the desired shape, fire it, fine grind sphere. This would be
structural backing for an unbonded slumped thin glass mirror liner (1/2"
thick). I'm afraid the glaze approach will result in a layer of glass being
too thin to fine grind, polish and figure.. If it can be made thick enough, it
more than likely will craze badly. As fired glaze will not resemble an optical
surface even if the shape were right.
