ATM atm jigsaw circles?

     My first and only attempt (thus far) at cutting a circle out of 
plywood with a jigsaw useing a bar attached to saw was not good at all. 
Maybe i did it wrong, or my saw is not good enough. The blade began to 
twist and veer away from the cuting arc. I finished the job freehand. I 
was able to round off the outer edge of the circle by running a bolt 
through the center and attaching to my drill press.,( a poor mans lathe) 
It came out nice and round but im doubtful about useing my drill press 
that way. Anyone know if thats harmful to the press?
