ATM 32 inch plate glass,melting or ..

Recently I had a conversation on the atm forum about the posibilety to fuse
or melt plate glass, to make a big mirror.

One of them email me ,he succeeded to make a 20 inch mirror with three
layers of plate glass. Each layer 0,73 inch ( about 19 mm ) thick, all three
together 2,2 inch thick.

And now the interesting part is: he sticked them together with a very thin
layer
of transparent silicone paste.

He said that there is not a sign of any kind of stress at all.
He said also that if he make a 20 inch again, two layers of  plate glass
will do to.

Anybody hear before from this method ?
