On my 8" Mirror-blank-waiting-for-me-to-be-healthy-enough-to-finish-
the-grinder (whew!  Turns out I've been low with the less nasty of the
two forms of bacterial pneumonia--I wouldn't wish the nastier version
on anyone), I found some industrial carpet that's sold and installed
as tile squares.  Cost was free--I picked some up from a scrap
barrel project at work.  Knap is about 1/4".
