Go to a well stocked welding supply store.
Ask them for appropriate rod.
Then go to a well stocked rental store and rent yourself
some oxy-acetlyne tanks. Small portable tanks weigh about 20lbs.
You don't want the full sized stuff, about a few hundred lbs to haul around.
You must clean all surfaces carefully, and go for it.
The butane torch stuff doesn't work well, at least in my experience.
