Re: [ATM] lens polishing
Have you considered using a gradient index (grin) lens instead of making
your own diverging lens?
Surplus shed http://www.surplusshed.com/ has them. Search for grin.

Subject: [ATM] lens polishing
I am using 10 mm diameter biconvex lens for spreading laser pointer beam in
Bath interferometer. I found that part of "sponginess" of interferograms
comes from this lens.
It has many surface defects which are either pointlike or small scratches. I
can not remove them with water, detergents or solvents.
Can I polish the lens lightly with cerium oxide so that surface will become
better.
If yes, I will appreciate advice on polishing technique for this small
lens.
Regards
Vladimir.
