If the mirror is not pollished yet.  Focualt will not work.  I think from his question the mirror is not pollished.  So that is not an option.  I used the sharpie test and that was good enough.  As we used to say grind more worry less.  Pollish more worry less.  As Richard S told me once the process is mostly self correcting if you do the strokes as prescribed.

A spherometer cannot verify sphericity (?) It can measure the depth of a
hole, that's about all. It cannot come near to measuring with the accuracy
necessary . It measures in ten thousandths, mot ten millionths.

Further, it does not check the entire curve, just very discreet spots on the
curve.

Try a foucault test.
