Re: [ATM] Masking Tape Goo (was Varathane)
Nev ver heard the term pinning, but aluminum tends to weld itself
to other metals quite readily and filing with steel is one easy
way to see it happen. Any lightweight hydrocarbon like kerosene
and so forth keeps the welding from happening and that can of
WD40 is a nice container of something to spray on the file. The
softer and gummier the aluminum, the more it loves to do the
trick and I've worked with aluminums that were so gummy that you
had to flood the work in order to keep the attachment from
happening at the minimum. Not supprisiingly, mild also works
with aluminum as well as with pure copper, which also has the
galling problem very strongly. I'd not recommend milk for its
problems with cleanup but it does work when other things won't.
