I assume he is referring to clogging the file with the metal dust
from filing. It compacts and fills the gullets of the teeth of the
file. It can also score the material you are filing if for example you
clog the file with steel and then file a piece of aluminum or brass.
I like Nickelson and Grobet files. Both are well made and work well.
The best file handles I have found are from Grobet, nice solid platic
handles with a screw on metal insert, reusable and inexpensive. see

A good file card is a must as well, keeping the file clean will help it
cut faster and easier.
