A few years ago I read that it was best to phone Newport for orders and also good to be prepared: know what you want and specify it correctly. I called and received a catalog in a reasonable time. I studied the catalog and have ordered from them twice - both very small glass, for obviously amateur use, and both have arrived promptly.
I'll bet that they just don't have the staff to handle the email properly and can't justify the expense of hiring someone additional for what is likely a very small percentage of their orders - but still want to maintain an internet accessibility for say, overseas inquiries from amateurs that can't afford the call or would need to call at 3AM local time.
