In "Reflecting Telescope Optics 1" by R.N. Wilson, p. 210: "It was
first proposed by Mangin in 1876 for systems projecting light beams
(searchlights)." This passage references a publication by A. Mangin,
"Memorial de l'officier du genie", 1876, 25.(2)10, pp. 211-289.
