[ATM] Inventor of Mangin mirror dies?

Hi all,

A lady I work with told me some time ago that one of her neighbors was
a Mr Mangini, who was well known for inventing the Mangin telescope. I
presume she is referring to the Mangin catadioptric mirror as used in
Maksutov Cassegrains and other similar optical systems. We've
discussed the topic off and on for a year or more I suppose, but I've
never been able to confirm the claim (not that I've tried particularly
hard). I just thought it a mild curiosity that an optical pioneer of
evidently some note was residing in my city (which is Perth, Western
Australia).

The only information I have is that his name was Mr Mangini and, as I
have learned today, that he was slightly younger than his wife, who is
now 94. The lady called me aside today and informed me that Mr
Mangini died suffering from Parkinson's disease (I believe) early last
week.

I've been trying to corroborate the claim, but my efforts at googling
are turning up a scant response. Can anyone confirm or refute the
assertion? I have no reason to disbelieve my colleague and I think
it would be a shame if someone who has contributed so much to the
field of optics should pass in obscurity.

Regards,
Bevan
