Re: [ATM] Go Back to High School...was mirror casting
Richard,
Electric kettles are very rare in the US.
We have electric irons, however, and they are rated in slug-furlongs per fortnight squared, right? Ma fella Uhmericans, please correct me if this is wrong. Ah don't do the ironing in ma house. Nobody does.

Actually it should be just Watts, unless you meant the total amount of
energy used from turning the kiln on to turning it off. If you look at
a kettle the label will tell you the power it uses in Watts. If it
says 2kW, it doesn't matter if you turn it on for 1 minute or 1 hour,
it still uses 2kW. What you would measure in watt-hours or joules is
how much energy it takes that kettle to boil a given amount of water,
by multiplying the rated power (watts) by the time taken (hours) to
give watt.hours. (or measure the time in seconds to give joules)
However, I have a feeling you know all that only too well, and meant
something else:)
Are American kettles rated in kW or foot-pounds.feet/second ? ;)
