Re: [ATM] Minor addendum to my 16" mirror casting page....
I made the mold I'm currently using by cutting out fibre blanket pieces that
were just about the right shape and size, bonding them together as required
and impregnating with rigidiser. Then all the pieces were shaped to final
tolerances and final assembly was done.
All told it took about 3 days to cutting, filing, sanding and "painting" to
get the mold to the "loading the glass" stage. All done wearing a respirator
and with a fan blowing the dust away from the house. I also had a vac handy
and as I finished one piece any dust (lets face it there was heaps) was
vacuumed up for later safe disposal.
Next time I'll farm this part out to a CNC shop that does refractory work
near to me.....
Thomas.
