Very simple and therefore very elegant,
 but unfortunately not usable for visible wavelenghts.


Concerning lightweight mirrors: at the moment I am busy grinding and polishing a 16 inch mirror made of kevlar-carbon-composite. 
Its weight is 1.5 kgs  (or 3 lbs).  As soon as there is any optical progress I will report it here.

Maybe I missed it being mentioned in the thread, but one way the stuff
was used in the 70's to make a mirror was with a low pressure on one
side with the circumference supported on a lapped ring (a la schmidt
corrector construction)
