While using Monokote is possible I would save that as a last resort, if all else fails.
Unless you have some experience with Monokote or similar coverings I would think twice before trying this. Having covered literally hundreds of model aircraft of every size and description with the stuff for many years, I know that it can be a real pain to get a decent job, expecially over flat or smooth closed surfaces such as telescope tubes. The skills required to get a good covering job with this stuff are not trivial and come only with practice.
