[ATM] Turned Down Edge (was Varathane)
I sanded the tube with #40 sandpaper. This was a bad idea. The beautiful
prism edges of the five-sided tube got badly turned down, destroying the
beauty of it all and exposing too much of the edge of the doorskin. At
this point, I have two options:
(1) cover the tube with carpet and make a sturdy base for it so it can serve
as a cat-scratching device, or
(2) recycle the wood in the fireplace. It is well impregnated with all
kinds of mineral spirits, varnish, stain oils, and it should burn nicely. I
will follow the advice in the holy scriptures if I do this: I will hurl the
tube onto a hydrant to break it up.
Meanwhile, I have a rotten looking chest of drawers that is begging for a
refinish job. I'm not quitting yet! Who expects everything to work right
the first time? One thing I learned: if you want to have nice sharp
edges, don't use a power sander with a foam pad under the sandpaper!
