Turcite just doesn't just "SOUND" like it works, it does work and extremely
well. I have built and used just such composite devices using small diameter
Turcite slugs pressed in a larger diameter aluminum cylinder. The composite
Turcite-aluminum part was then single point threaded on the lathe. The idea
was modeled after Ed Byers (Barstow, Ca.) worm gear clutch where a number of
¼" diameter Nylon slugs was pressed into a larger aluminum cylinder. The
assembled composite Nylon-aluminum part was then turned to the proper
diameter. My point is that when the composite Turcite-aluminum threaded part
is mated to a threaded aluminum part the CoE of both parts are almost the
same but the threaded contact is Turcite to aluminum. Any small variation in
the dimensions ("shrinking") of the smaller Turcite slugs has very little
effect on the larger assembly. The stability, durability and excellent
machining properties of Delrin and Turcite are based on my experience of
many years of using and machining both Delrin and Turcite. Delrin and
Turcite are excellent engineering materials despite what may be had by
Googling the web. Caveat Lector

BTW I also incorporated a mechanism so there is zero backlash with this
design.
