It also helps when just the info of interest is on the screen.
You have no need of lots of border around something and that
takes up a lot of space to record. Kind of like the guy that
takes a photo of a ronchigram and ends up with the mirror being
about ten percent of the image width and the rest is all black
background. Crop the black out so that the object of interest is
what is filling the screen and things look a lot bette and the
file takes up a lot less space.
Some of the compression systems allow for variable compression
and upping the compression factor will also reduce the file size.
JPEG is famous for this as many use a low compression factor and
thus don't get much compression. Up the commmpression factor
until you find the images objectionable and you'll probably find
that the size is a lot less than what you started with.
Sorry, but I don't know which system is really the best for
getting the most image per bit of file size as I really haven't
had the need to keep up with that stuff.
A mb for five seconds of video does seem to be rather high tho.
