As a U. And there is about 12.5" free on each side from the hanger to where 
it contacts the 22" mirror. I remember someone on this list said (a long 
time ago) that the sling should only touch about 45% of the circumference so 
that it doesn't pinch up the sides. Mine touches 50%. Is that what you mean 
by as a V?
