At least once, the microfacetting trick (nylon mesh pressed into the lap
surface) helped me overcome both uneven movement and dog biscuit. I
think the pitch was just too hard for the temperature I was using it in
and I had trouble getting and maintaining good contact. Meshing helped,
probably by lowering the effective hardness of the pitch.

Along with proper pressing, micro faceting with nylon window screen
helped a lot. I usually warm my lap, just slightly. Throw on say 40-50 lbs
for about a minute. Then reduce it to about 30 for four more minutes for a
total of five, then let them press with 5 lbs for about 15-30 minutes while
the mirror and tool become the same temperature. (Be sure if hot pressing
you let the tool cool fully, especially if figuring!)
The Micro-faceting helps quite a bit. The first time you do it, at least for
me, I was amazed at the increase of drag, and the smoothness of it also.
