At least once, the microfacetting trick (nylon mesh pressed into the lap
surface) helped me overcome both uneven movement and dog biscuit.  I
think the pitch was just too hard for the temperature I was using it in
and I had trouble getting and maintaining good contact.  Meshing helped,
probably by lowering the effective hardness of the pitch.
