[ATM] Polarizing filters versus neutral density filters

To the ATM group:

Could someone please explain the advantages of using
either a polarizing filter or the neutral density
filter
for lunar observations?  I have a single polarizing
filter which is advertised to reduce the intensity by
a factor of 3.  How would this differ from a neutral
density filter that transmits, say, 25%?
