It seems a little unfair to me to use terminating a thread as a device 
to have the last word.

By posting comment you invite replies and discussion.  This has the 
effect of devaluing your authority and rights as a moderator of this 
group - for such I assume you are as you have taken this authority on 
yourself - and so when you really want to terminate a thread you find 
that it is more difficult.

That's enough pompousness for one evening, it's Thanksgiving coming up 
isn't it? Have a good one.
