Hmm, comes across contradictory, since input from people who haven't proven
their design through installed telescopes is entering experimental
territory.  

If you want proven engineering, look no further than the pros, as described
in Wilson's Reflecting Telescope Optics II, section 3.4 "Mirror Support
Systems in Modern Telescopes".  I've summarized the chapter in previous
posts including the pros analysis of slings.
