[ATM] Best locations for 4-Pt. Wiffletree edge support PLS.
Thx for the comments, Scott. You mentioned seeing a pic of a commercial
scope.
A few years ago I ran across very basic drawings online which included a
proposal Torus was making for some observatory or club. The scope looked
like an eq. yoke mounted RC.
It showed the pivoting bars at the 120 degree spacing, with the long
pivoting arms equalizing all the gaps. I can?t call up the site, but had
printed a low res image way back. Just scanned it & will send you a copy.
An Alt-Az has to be simpler than an equatorial. But I wonder what the math
is behind the 45 degree pivoting arms with 22.5 degree and 67.5 degree
placements of each support pair, and their effect on the mirror.
Plan is to use the scope primarily for visual, but will design enough room
around the focus board for a field rotator, for some non-critical digital
imaging fun with a 32?. It will be mechanically sound enough, but good
photography will depend on whether I can install some effective tracking.
