Hi Richard and Michael,

Thanks for your responses.  Richard, I want the DC motor so that
I can vary the turntable speed.  I use a slow turntable speed
for polishing but prefer a faster speed for grinding and edge
beveling.  The DC motor is easier to adjust for speed.

Michael,

I now have a better idea what kind of motor to look for.  I also
have a variac and was planning to use it to vary the motor speed
as you do.  Is there any circuitry I need between it and a DC
motor?
