[ATM] DC Motor for grinding machine question

I have a modest sized Draper grinding machine.  It will handle
mirrors up to 12 inches.  I would like to switch to DC motors
and have been looking on ebay.  DC motors designed for electric
scooters seem quite cheap.  One with these specifications is
currently available:

24volt 100watt motor 6 amp, 2500 rpm.  

I would obviously need a gearbox / pulley system for reduction. 
Could this motor be used to drive my turntable? Ideally I would
like to vary speeds between about 3 to 50 rpm.
